Quaich collector

Hello The Rabble,

Since hosting the X marks the scot Quaich last year, I have developed a real interest in quaichs. To continue the quaichs quest I poured a dram from the xmarks Quaich to my own Quaich and I ti now take mine to events and places of interest to share the cup of kindness with friends old and new along with a small log book. I have also collected more quaichs and now have a small collection of 7 of different shapes and sizes and I am on the look out for more. I am looking in all the usual online places but if anybody knows of the whereabouts of any please please keep me posted if you have any that you no longer require.

I shall be posting some pics of mine soon.

Also I'm fascinated by the elaborately trimmed jacket of your Pipe Major Kerr. Never seen one like it.

It seems what usually comes to mind when quaichs are mentioned are nicely decorated silver bowls, more on the upper crustish side of things. However, in the past, and sometimes still, quaichs for just plain folks were more humble, often being made of wood, or wood with some metal decoration. I have a goodly supply of pear wood that I carve, not turn, into bowls. I've been thinking it would be fun to carve some pear wood quaichs and to put some up for sale. Might there be a small market for these, or not? Would wood appeal to collecters? I have my eye on some catalpa, it makes very nice and usable treen wear. I'm not limited to using only pear wood.

I'm not a collector, but for one, I'd be interested depending on price.

If you plan to advertise here, check out our guidelines on sales. You might want to register as a hobbyist if you head in this direction, and as I say, if the price is right . . . .
