There have in the past been some less than friendly comments about the Gold Brothers. One of the things that apparently rubbed some people up the wrong way is that they sold some kilts as designed in Scotland without mentioning that they were made in Pakistan. Now, I ask you, would that not tell you they weren't made there, if they had to word it like that?

Oh well, never mind. I personally own multiple Pakistani kilts and zero made in Scotland (or even, AFAIK, designed in Scotland), and certainly none made by or for the Gold Brothers, so I know little about what quality they might or might not be. Suffice to say, I think that much worse ones are out there.

I have two 16oz wool kilts from Heritage of Scotland labelled as made by John Morrison. I assume the brand now belongs to the Gold Brothers. I can only speak from my own personal experience and say both fit me really well, feel well made and look stunning. The were sold as made to measure and I loved the first one so much (Wilson ancient) that I bought another from the same manufacturer in a different tartan. Both were made to measure and delivered within 6 to 7 weeks after ordering. I changed the drop (I went shorter) on my first kilt 4 weeks after I ordered and their customer service team were very helpful ensuring the changes went through with no problem.

I'd have no problem recommending them and would certainly buy a third wool kilt from there. Wherever they are made the tartan in the wool kilts comes from Lochcarron mills. Without taking the lining off, both appear to be made with attention to detail. I also have a cheap PV from HoS and whilst it is not made to the same quality as my wool kilts, it was fantastic value and is a great kilt to wear around the house.

100% experience so far from me.

I'm thinking about doing the same with my Gold Brothers PV kilt as the OP and deconstructing it to make the pleats hang a little better. Not that they're too bad, just a small niggle of mine lol...
