    Photo ID Challenge

This picture is a classic example of the type of tartan that I'm often asked to help identify. Undoubtedly it's from a photographer's studio Scottish outfit rather than one belonging to the actual sitter. That said, it's always interesting to have a crack at some of the more unusual tartans and whilst one cannot always be certain, it's often possible to narrow the tartan down to one or two.

Anyone want to have a crack at this one?

Not Jacobite #2 or any other Jacobite setting either. At risk of going off topic, interesting that the Jacobite #2 and the Brandon tartan are essentially the same thing.

Definitely not Balfour, that was one of my designs whereas the picture is c1880-1910 at a guess.

There as strong similarities with both the Perth and Spens tartans. Unfortunately the image is just too grainy to enable the pattern to be tidied up sufficiently to be certain.
