    Hi!

My family - that is the rest of my family, my wife and children have seen me in kilt already - got its first impression of my kilt last weekend when I visited my sister. She did not mention it at all until sunday and then she sorts it into the category "my strange brother does strange things".
The real test will come next weekend when my pßarents will be visiting. They will already know it, since my sister is sure to tll them of her strange brother!
But then I have to live with the reactions of my wife and children not those of my parents. Since they do not like my whole lifestyle (too christian, not enough ambition, wrong wife, etc.) I have learnt to live with their disapproval.

One needs to distinguish between being strange and being eccentric. You are eccentric if you are promoting a good idea.

Save the written apology. I suggest that you keep it tucked in yer sporran in the event that there is a next time. He made the offending remark in front of family... he should have apologized in front of family. If there has been celebrating going on, people can have short or selective memories.

Other than that little bump, sounds like it was a good time. 8)

    Thanks for the comments, guys!

One of the best things was my wife's reaction. She asked if I planned to wear the kilt at the dinner, and I originally wasn't sure if I would or not. I have one brother who can be a real PITA. She told me I had to wear it. When I first started wearing a kilt she wasn't sure if she liked the idea. Now she's proud to "show me off" in public. She says I look alot better in a kilt than I do in a suit.

Blue...that's a good idea about hanging on to that note. With a little luck my BIL has finally figured out I won't put up with his crap any more, but having the note might come in handy down the road.

Hermann...my wife's parents are German immigrants. They know that I wear a kilt, but they haven't seen me in it yet. We don't see each other very often so the opportunity hasn't come up. They're not quite sure what to think of the whole idea. It will be interesting to see what their reaction will be. Like you, I don't live with them, so I'm not terribly worried if they don't approve.
