    Congratulations to you both Bren,

I would consult your bride to be, and as you are open to either go with what she prefers.

Congratulations to you, Bren, and sincere best wishes to you and your fiancee. Trews are a comfortable alternative and permit a less expensive entry to THCD for many.

Congrats, Bren! I'm also getting married soon, but I plan on wearing a kilt. I have lower waisted tartan trousers and have paired them with a tweed sports coat. If you're leaning toward trews for an evening wedding, however, then I agree with figheadair that black tie formal wear would work nicely.

What jacket you wear will depend a bit on what type of trews you have (or will get). The high-waist, fishtail-back variety can look quite smart with a short waisted coatee (i.e., Prince Charlie) or a mess jacket. If they are more like tartan trousers cut at your jeans-waist, then a high-waist jacket won't work—mind the gap! In that case, a Saxon dinner jacket would be a better choice. Below are a couple pics culled from Google of what looks good to my eye.

Congratulations, Bren. Somehow Colin, I knew there was going to be a picture of Sir Jackie, he is very fond of his tartan trews. Glad he left off the matching flat cap on this occasion.

If you are going to do it, do it in a kilt!

    Congrats

As one of Scottish heritage, (who once lived in Scotland), who wishes he had gotten married in Scottish garb (but didn't), here's what I say. Kilts look sharp, but so do trews. So, you wear a kilt, have your groomsmen wear matching trews. OR, you wear trews, have your groomsmen wear matching kilts. Then you're not all the same. I think that would really look sharp.
