I don't know if it has been suggested or not, but to alleviate the chafing caused by a wool kilt you might try wearing a T-shirt one to two sizes larger than usual. the extra length in the tail of the shirt may prevent any rubbing against your skin.

Also, it sounds as though the Marton Mill fabric would either make a good alternative or a backup plan.
You've confirmed my thoughts on a Utility Kilt. I wasn't that keen on it myself - It was my wife who suggested it as an alternative because, as she so delicately put it to me, "you look slimmer in Utility Kilts". I still haven't worked out whether a) this is true or b) a "Made to Measure" traditional style kilt will suit my shape better than "Off the shelf" or c) she is just trying to get me to lose weight...
Again - Many thanks
I assume that the iirritation in where the kilt is pressed against the skin i.e. where you sit and the tops of the thighs. Historically the lene would have solved this. I also assume as its a wedding you will be formally dressed, probably with a white cotton shirt, would it not be possible to extend a shirt just enough to cover the irritated areas? At a wedding, i assume you're to the reception after. there is normally dancing, children and alcohol personally I would wear long underwear anyway I wouldn't want to be everyones unfortunate memory of the event!!

As someone who has coped with this problem for 60+ years, I'd say Steve has covered all the bases. I'd only expand to the extent that women's slip type garments with (as Steve points out) the frilly hem removed work well as long as the are sufficiently flared. Otherwise you have to cut slits in them to allow for unrestricted movement. Also as another member has pointed out, skater skirts work well too. They do not have an insufficient flare problem and some have enough material that it drops between your legs and provides an extra barrier to any possible embarrassment or offence.

If you are going to do it, do it in a kilt!

I took wedding photos, once
Kind a wedding side note: I attended a wedding, in Glasgow, in the 1980's. The groom, his groomsmen had kilts/formal jackets. They hired a photographer. I happened to have a new camera, that I was eager to try out. As the couple exited the ceremony, into the front lobby of the church, I asked them if I could snap a couple of pictures of them. I did, and as a gift, I blew up a copy, and gave it to them. They came back to me, and asked if they could borrow the negative, as my photo was better than ANY that their hired photographer had taken. This rank amateur happily gave them the negative. They were overjoyed.

Here you go Colin, better late than never and not a very clear picture I am afraid, pictures of pictures never are in my clumsy photographic experience. As I said in one of my earlier posts here, I would have worn my tweed argyll, but my son's dog added his input to the proceedings! In case you might be wondering. Is that a hint of a plaid over my left shoulder? No, perish the thought, its a "button hole" of white heather.

Well, the girl's cute, but I don't know about that fellow! (Of course, people say the same about my wedding pictures too.)

I am delighted to say that I have never been described as "cute" , at least, not within my hearing anyway.
