    Stetson with kilt

I've seen several posts on Militaria and kilt wearing, but I have a question about wearing the Stetson with the kilt. We have our annual Brotherhood of Tankers reunion at Ft. Hood this summer and I was thinking of maybe wearing an Army tartan kilt along with my Stetson and vest. I'm thinking it may look pretty sharp. Maybe some Cav or Armor troops could advise.

You could probably do it in the US. In Canada, nobody would likely say anything but they'd all walk away shaking their heads and rolling their eyes a bit.

Well met James. Be prepared to explain; 1) comfort of wearing a kilt, 2) US Army tartan, 3) hat provides shade, 4) CAV appropriate Stetson, 5) combination of kilt, Stetson and vest is personal choice, 6) setting of event and why you are there in the first place.

Some folks will scoff, others will engage (for and against), most will notice and refrain from comments. Here I am at last year's Nam Vets M/C rally. Left my Stetson at home but had a great weekend with fellow vets.

For comparison. "Traditional" and contemporary. Or, since the tartan kilt has pockets, tartan and utility.

    No hat.

Thumbs up A hat is a hat

As someone who has served in both the British Army and the US Army (Cav Scout & Armr Cav), I don't see a problem with wearing your Stetson, providing it is in a non-formal setting. If it was a Regimental/Association dine-in, them absolutely not. Take loads of Pictures, I might see a face or two that I know.

GREAT pics of tartan and plain kilts w/ & w/o "serious" hat.

Agreement with sentiments; one's ensemble should be for comfort, practicality, utility, appropriateness...and freedom.

Treating the kilt as trousers is personal preference; other parts of kit are usually "in harmony," though not always perfect unity.
