My First Attempt at Kiltmaking
Marton Mills PV tartan. Barb's book (used as inspiration since I wasn't bothering to be traditional at all). I made a few million mistakes, and normally I wouldn't ask anyone but me to wear so many mistakes, but my husband wanted the first kilt, and so he got it. I take heart that at the rate he's losing weight, this is probably going to be demoted to what he wears when running half marathons very soon.

Looks very nice. Your comments about mistakes reminds me that I was just commenting to my wife this morning that I have no need of another kilt, but want to make another anyway just so I can fix the mistakes of previous efforts. Also exciting to learn of another kilted distance runner.

I commend the job you've done. All of you that sew a "do over" get my respect.

He's new to the distance running thing. Just ran his first race yesterday.
Last January we went down to Disneyland to cheer on a friend who was running the Star Wars 10k and half marathon. We saw 3 or 4 kilted runners. Our friend convinced my husband to take up running and convinced me to sell Rodan + Fields. It was a strange weekend.

Finished kilt #2 at about 1:15 this morning. My alarm goes off at 5:30, which means I'm spending National Tartan Day in a caffeine-assisted haze as well as spending it in a kilt.
This one is far from error-free, but at least they're new errors. Several of them I did, in fact, spot and knew (at least theoretically) how to correct, but the push to finish it to be able to wear it today led to several "Eh, good enough" moments. Since most of my exercise restrictions have finally been lifted, I'm hoping that this kilt will soon to be too big for me, and I can write it off as a learning experience.
I previously thought I had respect for people who can make kilts and make them well. I had no idea...
