Whilst I know very little about the Outlander series, in my experience TV shows and costume dramas of which the one Mel Gibson starred in wearing the kilt is a prime example and has, perhaps unwittingly, ensured that the unknowing majority who know little about kilts and care even less, regard almost any civilian kilt as a costume.This is only perpetuated when some pop star wears some abomination of a version of a kilt.
