I'm sorry Cavalry Scout but X Marks is, and always has been, dedicated solely to discussions about the kilt. We know and accept that this narrow topic is not the sole sum of human experience.
We keep our focus on the kilt. It is what brings us here and what makes this forum unique in the world.
Today X Marks is the world's largest and most active on-line community dedicated to the kilt. It is only by maintaining our focus on our chosen topic that we retain what we have built here.
As you said yourself, there are many good forums and venues available for discussion on your topic. When I bought X Marks from our founder Hank I realized and made a promise that this forum would remain true to its original concept.

Please share your thoughts if you are so inclined. Some possible ideas might include book reviews, discussions of doctrine and tactics, family memories of the war, and information sharing. I look forward to your input!

Cavalry Scout, I too am fascinated by the Great War era. The cool thing about it is the ubiquitous image of the kilted soldiers and pipers. It is such a profound image. Perhaps, your vision could best be appropriately realized in a thread focusing on kilts in the military. Just a thought. One of favorite things to do on this forum is to look up regimental and military pics from long ago from previous discussions.

The Great war is a huge and interesting subject and most of it does not concern the kilt. We are a kilt website and for good or ill that is what we discuss here. It is possible to weave the Great War into the discussions here by including kilt matters when kilted uniforms are specifically mentioned and the odd mention of wars in general can also get a brief mention in passing during a kilt conversation, or the "what are you reading?" section. The weapons section here is an illogical title as it only allows kilt related sharp pointy things to be discussed and studiously ignores anything that goes bang from a traditional civilian kilted or military kilted point of view and is in my personal opinion, heavily and excessively moderated , so that is sadly a blind alley too.The miscellaneous section could and does also allow non kilt matters to be discussed, but hardly at the depth that many would like to discuss non kilted matters.
Sadly, but I have to admit, with mostly good and sound reasoning by the owner, I therefore reluctantly have to say, we are a kilt website with very narrow boundaries and experience tells me that that is how its going to stay.

But I thought the miscellaneous forum was for topics not directly related to kilts?

Quite correct. But not ANY, or, ALL topics. I am not a moderator here, but as I understand it, subjects like religion, politics, firearms, non "family" subjects are not allowed in discussions, other than in a brief non-inflammatory and relevant passing comment. I am not sure how the Great War would be viewed by the management in this particular section of the website( I have in fact, successfully posted one or two minor WW1 threads here myself) -------although Steve has already spoken generally in this thread-----------but there are very good reasons for avoiding certain contentious subjects and that does make for a more harmonious website on the whole. As you the OP mentioned in your first post, we cannot deny that this website is far more pleasent to be present on than most.
I really cannot guess how a full blown WW1,BEF thread will be received here, I await clarification on this matter with interest.

I was just waken by the storms the pounded Oklahoma. I found this thread. Booms in the night here were probably the same for the "Doughboys". That is as far I need to relate to the subject.
That said, I wonder if there are other ex or current military members that belong to "groups" (other web sites) that can direct Mark to fulfill his request. I know that each person often has varied and many interests and enjoy the "roundtable" discussions of those subjects. Good luck with finding the passionate folks that will share your need to explore WWI in depth.
