New tartan arrived Yay!!!!
I just got a new roll of tartan from Marton Mills. This one is the grey version of my T6 design. A big thanks is due to Bethany Smith at MM for her endless patience sending me yarn samples until we arrived at the colors I wanted and we nailed down the right grey for the job. If there is such a thing as teal-grey that's pretty much what we got. In some light it looks blue-ish, sometimes green-ish and sometimes grey. The T6 pattern on this one is made with two browns, purple and gold. It's not quite as red as it looks in this quickie photo, but these tartans are always hard to photograph accurately for some reason. Considering that this one is a bit more subdued than our other versions with the reds and oranges, it still has a nice amount of color present when you get it out into the light.
In any case, I'll eventually chop off a hunk to send to Barb T for another kilt, maybe make a matching waistcoat to go with it and I think my wife is considering either another long tartan dress or maybe a long skirt and jacket from this one. It's kind of fun to own the only piece of a specific tartan in the entire world, and once again the folks at Marton Mills were a pleasure to work with.

Here is a little better shot of the colors. For some reason my video camera seems to be able to capture the colors better than my digital camera, though the focus isn't as sharp. The grey looks blue-ish, but with the lighting in this particular room it actually does.

Yep, I'm liking this one and looking forward to the kilt. I'm still surprised how colorful it is for a basically grey and brown tartan. I got the straps made for the kilt a couple days ago. I think they'll look really nice on the tartan and they will match my other leather gear.

Todd,
Would you be willing to share with us who made those kilt straps?? And in passing, I saw (fairly certain) the 'original' T6 tartan last summer while I was attending kilt camp with Barb and I found it to be stunning. And now, the new colours are exquisite and just beautiful.
Cheers!

Stephane, I make all of our leather stuff myself. I'm not very well stocked with leather working tools, but I do have a couple big sewing machines for my sailmaking work and can do fairly simple leather projects. Since they're just for us, I don't have to worry about how inefficient I am at it. You probably saw the T6 black background version. There are now four (light blue, black, navy and the new grey one). I have one more that I want to do some day, a brown "hunting" version, but it's going to be a while as I'll need to save up the funds. You can see a lot of pictures of our tartan and leather projects (and a lot of other assorted craziness) in this Photobucket album:

Bluescelt, Thank you! I think I inherited it. My dad was a well known contemporary watercolor and casein painter.
