Indeed. I heard briefly from John and he has been horribly ill and is working to achieve a recovery, but it is a long and challenging road ahead. Your prayers and best wishes for our friend are in order.

I'm very sorry to hear John has been so ill. He's been nothing but a gentleman in our dealings in the past and I really hope he makes a full and speedy recovery.

Incidentally, this has nothing to do with my outstanding order, I genuinely like the man and only wish him the best.

Very good news!!! I just received an e-mail from John Hart of Keltoi Gaelic Clothing, and he said that he has been extremely ill with Meningitis for the last few months. He apologized profusely for the delay, and informed me that he'd shipped my new kilt earlier today. He must have just finished it when he got sick, but before he could send it to me.

At any rate, I thought it very important to let all of you know now that he sounds like he's well on the mend and is trying to get his business back together again.

When you own your own business and get sick, you have no income but the bills still come in anyway. I propose that we, as a kilt-wearing community, come together to help out a very skilled highland tailor, and really great guy as he tries to get back on his feet, by supporting him and his company Keltoi as much as we can.

Great to have you back again John!!!

    Message from John

I received an email also about some ordered sale items. Good news indeed that John is on the mend and those concerned about him and their orders are reassured.

    Missing in Action, Again????

I ordered a kilt from John at the end of the year last year. At the time his queue was quoted to be 12 weeks long. I heard from him shortly after the order was placed and then nothing. Much like others in his queue. It was found that he was suffering from health problems. When he recovered he contacted me and apologized for the lack of communication. At that time he stated that he was about a week behind his schedule. Not a problem. Then we had issues getting the correct tartan from the mill... Then about mid April (3 weeks after the quoted time of the kilt being done) nothing... that was a month ago. No answer to his listed phone number, no response to multiple emails.

Anyone else having these same problems again? Is this a growing trend from him? Do I request a refund? Dispute the charge with my bank and start the process over again with another tailor? I had high hopes to have the kilt completed by early June for multiple functions, now this is looking like less of a possibility. Am I wrong to be frustrated?!!

If it's any help, his site has not been updated since April 21st. When I was checking regularly before these problems started, it seemed like he was updating it at least weekly. Perhaps this indicates he has again fallen ill?

While I do not want to disparage the kiltmaker, perhaps it would be a good idea to dispute the charge and forget about this order. Since he has been back in action, his kilt queue has only gotten longer, so unless he is receiving a new order for each kilt that he is producing, it looks like nothing has been accomplished in the last months.

Perhaps some of others who commented above, and who had orders close to completed before John fell ill, can let us know whether any progress has been made on their kilts.

I have opened a dispute with PayPal. Assuming he does not respond in the next day I will escalate the process to a refund. I do not want to take business away from him however, I cannot and am not willing to wait indefinitely. Sad to say, I had high hopes. The reviews of his work were top notch.

What about the advertised warranty, as it appears on the website?
    WARRANTY
All of my kilts come with a lifetime warranty. Any repairs (i.e. not alterations) will be done free of charge (excluding shipping) for as long as you own the kilt.

I don't know that I would put too much faith in that at the moment. I hope that is not actually the case, but my experience has been less than optimal. Where we haven't heard from John in a while it is hard to say what is actually going on.

Everything that I have read and heard is that he is a joy to work with. Let us hope that this resolves and quickly so he can repair his reputation.
