Leg Tattoos to go with a Kilt
Looking at the new pic of Highlandtide and Miah, Miah's tats got me to remembering something I've been pondering a while.
I want my next tattoos to be leg tattoos on my calfs where they'd show between a kilt and my shoe/boot tops. Want them to be symbolic of my Viking/Scot heritage.
My choice of tats is sort of "spot" tattoos in diffent areas, rather than a sleeve (have 11 so far, but that's another addiction).
So, I'm in the process of looking for ideas both for design and placement. Have thought about things like swords, clan badges, and thistles.
Just thought I'd ask if anyone had any experience or ideas along this line...I'm guessing a lot of folks on this board have tats.

I have a large Celtic falcon tattooed on my leg and i get a lot of favourble comments about it.
Another thing... I have four Pictish characters tatoed on one of my forearems that I am slowly working into a sort of sleeve?
Perhaps you could have a clan crest and buckler with some viking knotwork?

Actually, haven't had any leg work done. Didn't want to be too over the top at work in the summer when I wear my hose pushed down.
And, am still waiting for my copy of the Clan Donald book with the eagle and the boat on the cover that I like for a tat. Usual Amazon delay on new books.
Would like to see what you did Arlen.
For my branch of the Macdonald Clan I think the cross should be replaced with a longneck.

I have a good friend, who is a full time kiltie. He's not on here. But his leg tattoos are of "Where the Wild Things Are." It was his favorite book a kid and he is a children's librarian. They are some of the best tattoos I've ever seen. He rarely wears tall socks/hose so that he can show them off. They are a show stopper. Not the best picture, but the best I've taken of them.

I am going to get my first tattoo next week. Its a birthday present from my wife. Its a sgian dubh with sort of a tribal knot inspired handle. My wife has a matching one on her back (so that it looks like she has a knife stuck in the waisteband of her pants). My colors are going to be different than hers but otherwise it will be the same.

Nice ink Arlen,
Thanks for the pics.
The ship and eagle crest you evolved is pretty much the design on the Clan Donald book bookjacket that I'm waiting for.

Thanks.
The crest is a nice one, and it felt good to have one that didn't involve a cross.
I hope when you get to see the book jacket you like the design as much as I do.

I really like those Pictish designs. That's the kind of thing I have been thinking of; a few images like those in select places. I'm also interested in Norse images.
Thanks for the pics.

I have a pair of dice on my calf, each showing one pip. It says 'Snake Eyes' underneath in my own handwriting.
