Earl of Standews

has in their tartan list one called Earl of Standews. I find no listing of this tartan at the Tartan Authority or Registry. I assume it must be a fashion tartan. Anyone know more?

It's a typo for Earl of St. Andrews, a fashion tartan from the 1930s. STA entry.

This is a very beautiful, striking Tartan. It is one of the replacements in my rental fleet.
Most weavers carry it. I get my rental fleet fabric, in P/V, from MM.

Thanks, Peter, for the explanation. I wondered if it were a misspelling, but when it comes to tartan names you never know. I ordered a kilt from Kilts 4 Less and browsed the other options on the site when I ran across it.

I like the colors in the bar (can't think of the correct name for it) on the left of the STA page. However on my screen the larger image looks greenish. I wouldn't want to wear that. The bluer version would be nice.

Right now the prices in US $ seem quite reasonable. My kilt cost around $330, I think. This late at night the memory isn't so good. One can get an 8-yard 16 ounce wool kilt for not much more than a p/v 8 yarder from well known US makers. K4L doesn't charge extra for bigger sizes, at least they didn't charge me. I say get 'email while they're hot. I've asked previously about K4L quality and gotten favorable reports.

Earl Of St. Andrew was the first traditional kilt I made. It is pleated to the sett. The blue is a little off in this photograph. I get a lot of compliments on the tartan. Good choice if looking for new kilt.
