I look at the fur and I see coyote. I've not tanned a grey fox from the northern states captured during the winter (which would have a similar plush pelt). I expect the "face" is not attached because the nape and scalp of a coyote would be correct dimensions of this sporran's flap.
I concede that I have only dressed two grey foxes and one red during my life. But I have seen a lot of coyote pelts.
