    That's the very rare blind cave fox. Nearly extinct because they're so easy to catch.

    I look at the fur and I see coyote. I've not tanned a grey fox from the northern states captured during the winter (which would have a similar plush pelt). I expect the "face" is not attached because the nape and scalp of a coyote would be correct dimensions of this sporran's flap.

    I concede that I have only dressed two grey foxes and one red during my life. But I have seen a lot of coyote pelts.

    Yep looks to me like the head/face is just a piece of fur cut to that shape.

    They thought they could get away with that? At the very least they could have stuck a couple fake eyes on it.

    I'd bet a pile that it's actually Raccoon Dog / Tanuki:



    Many cheap fur items are.
