What tartan is that? I've never seen that particular kilt on HRH before.

It's Prince Charles Edward. It's a new kilt made from a special length with a broad black herringbone selvedge, commissioned by the STA and woven by A. Elliot Ltd..

This tartan has been sold as such from the late 18th century so definitely not restricted in any respect. The shades in this piece were a 'special weave' so are not the general run-of-the-mill.
