Not sure why the Lord George papers would have anything to say about the 42nd sett? I'm dubious about the red line use that early and would not take a suggestion of red in the Morier image as authoratative. Will be intersted in what you find.

It would help if I would have typed John, instead of George of course!
He was the Regimental COL, so correspondence between him and the regimental agent might speak of Grenadier distinctions.
