I’d like to sell my my vintage mess coat. It is a formal evening wear jacket that could be worn for black or white tie, depending on the accessories. See photos below.
Details:
- No markings or tags
- Purchased secondhand from an eBay seller in Scotland.
- Appears to be made of wool. The black material is almost velvety feeling and very fine
- Cuffs are pointed (see pic).
- High cut of the jacket works best with a traditional, high-waisted kilt.
- One inside chest pocket.
- Buttons on the front are only for show because the buttonhole is stitched shut.
Estimated size: 38 regular
Actual measurements:
- sleeve from shoulder seam to cuff with jacket on a hanger: 25” or 63 cm
- length from top of collar to bottom of hem with jacket on a hanger: 21” or 53 cm
- shoulders from seam to seam across the back with the jacket laid flat: 18” or 46.5 cm
- armpits from seam to seam with the jacket laid flat: 21” or 53 cm
N.B. This jacket is in good, used condition, but there are two small repairs to the liner where a tear or hole was stitched up: one in the armpit (about 3” or 8cm) and one in bottom of the back (1” or 2.5 cm). Neither are visible from the outside.
Mess jacket: $60 CAD or $49 USD or €41 Euro or £35 GBP

Includes the vintage vest shown in the outfit above. It is adjustable and has an open back. The white material appears to be silk (or at least silk-like) and has white paisleys on it. The buttons are marked "sterling" and have what appears to be mother of pearl inlays.
