This site is really responsible........
With a German surname, I never really thought about wearing a kilt, though I always loved hearing the pipes. (I played the oboe, so I have an affinity to double reeds).
I eventually wound up in the Lehigh Valley (PA), which holds the Celtic Classic each year, and we went for the music.
My wife encouraged a kilt purchase, (black Amerikilt), and thinking about it I didn't want it to be a costume worn only for the Celtic fest.
I found this site and through the encouragement of many of the members, I looked at the kilt differently.
Looking at my heritage, I have more English, Irish, and Scottish than German.
I learned to wear the kilt, to make a kilt, and to enjoy what it is to be a kilt wearer.
I have been on this kilt board for over 10 years, and enjoy hearing from it's members.

I always liked kilts for the variety of different colours and thought it was great to stand out amongst the sea of dull suits at a function. 2007 saw me take the plunge, first with a nasty Royal Stewart from a cashmere tat shop, so itchy and bad fitting my wife told me it was disgusting and to bin it. Second attempt was another kilt, surprisingly good, from a gothic boutique in Camden, London, and from then I was hooked, branching out to Black Stewart and other tartans, and now have a wide range, and as the Mrs says, too many, with 3 more arriving this week, (Celtic FC tartan in green, a bright red and yellow Motherwell FC tartan as well as a kilt with a jacket I will chuck, many of these are impulse buys, damn ebay ) another kilt jacket and waistcoat is on its way, in Harris tweed.
I get many compliments, sometimes from places you would least expect. Instagram shows me daily I am not alone as hundreds of kilt pictures appear daily, so there may be tons more out there who are like minded. Just joined another kilt forum / group on Facebook, but this site has been great to introduce me to Highland Wear. I may stick my head around the door from time to time though
Take care,
