For those of you who have a liking for a tinge of a sherry taste in their dram, then Talisker Distillers Edition may well be worth a try.

The first thing noticed about a Port cask finished whisky is the colour.... it is absolutely glorious.....and late at night when you are just about a sleep it will hit you that there is just a tiny bit of sweetness that comes from the port casks heh! heh!
It is absolutely an endless loop. The best spirits merchants invariably are equally knowledgeable about wine, and vice versa, and with good reasons. Whisky is distilled beer, brandy is distilled wine, etc. Ferment, Brew, Distill, Repeat (and Age) As Needed. My favorite example of the nexus of wine and spirits to-date is Nardini Riserva, an extra distilled grappa, aged five years in oak, that will fully redefine anyone's unflattering preconceptions of grappa, and is an absolute first cousin to the 12 year old, Sauternes barrel-finished Nector d'Or offering by the aforementioned Glenmorangie.

There's typically not a large selection of fine single malts at the "ABC store" here in small town NC. Last week the Redhead happened across Aberlour 12 at one store and we've been enjoying that.

Today I happened across Talisker 10. Looking forward to my first taste of that this evening by the fire.

I like both of these, and the Talisker is one of carolinanan117's favorites. Last night, I had a few drams of The Famous Grouse.

I am very fond of sherry - both fino and olorosso, but prefer not to have my single malts flavoured with them. The "traditional" bourbon cask aging is still my favourite.

Talisker. Very nice. Interesting how the peatiness comes along after the first taste.

Amrut Fusion, made in India of all places. A very nice dram if you can find it. Bought more out of curiosity but I'm quite happy with this purchase.

while partial to single Islay, came across a rather nice peaty blend at a tasting - Old Perth. Decent price point, too

This past weekend we had a small get together with a group of friends, and a toast was made with a bottle of 18 year old Glengoyne that had been brought back from Scotland.

It was light and fruity on the nose, not peated at all. An initial shot of honey and spices, the flavours develop a bit further on the spice note and you can taste some candied orange peel and nuts before a very clean finish with no real lasting mouth feel or lingering after taste.

Overall a nice drink, however with the initial burst of flavours I was hoping for a bit longer finish as it was quite pleasant.
