That is fantastic, I do the same but for CN.

Looking at your photos reminded me of the flooded Pine River in northern BC this past Spring. over 50 miles of rail was either wiped out or rendered impassible because the rail bed had washed away and left the rail hanging in the air. A similar thing happened in 2011 in the same area, just on a smaller scale.

When I went to the Ventura Seaside Games in 2009 I was allocated a hotel room beside the railroad. "I hope you won't be disturbed by the trains" said the receptionist. More like a dream come true for me, to be wakened by the distant hooter and be up in time to open the curtains and watch a long freight headed by several power units racing through the night right outside the window. I rode from Santa Barbara to Ventura on an Amtrak California Surfliner train, powered by a UP SD70ACe. The guy with the bike told me this was quite rare. It seems that rather than have a defective Amtrak unit blocking their tracks, the UP will supply their own power unit to get it moving again.

Maybe you can be sent north and fix the railroad on Vancouver Island where most of my cousins live:-

There was a major washout caused by flooding on the Carlisle to Settle route in the north of England during winter 2015/16 which is now being re-constructed and is due to re-open to trains during March 2017.

Not as impressive but they also closed the Norwich to Lowestoft railway line due to flooding yesterday, I think the highest this line acheives is probably 30 ft above sea level and for most of it a lot less.
The picture below is from a pub on the line there is no road access, you can see how easy it is to flood the area.

We've had stormy high winds from the north coinciding with spring tides and low air pressures all of which raise the sea level. The towns and villages on the coast only had minor damage, as the water didn't quite exceed the defences but it got very close, they had evacuated 5000 people from Great Yarmouth.

There is minor flooding in villages 20 miles inland by river today, because due to the high tides yesterday the river water could not escape.
