    What make is this sporran?

I could not resist this on eBay....
Cantle has 'Made in Scotland' stamp like WE Scott make. Fur is white, cantle and hardware including tassel balls are silver plate. When I received, was tarnished. Leather and all hardware now cleaned and polished.

I have not seen this cantle design before...
Any ideas for make of this sporran?

I don't know the make. Is a lovely sporran though and by all appearances well made!! I don't know much bout seal hides, but I'd have though the fur would be shorter and stiffer since its a water mammal though I see by pics online that pups are pretty furry. What is the mark on the bottom; 100% leather? A good find and I see eBay has others.

Fr Bill's browser giving him sone grief this AM?

The gold-lettered stamp on the lower back is the typical "Made in Scotland, Real Leather"

How did you get seal into the US? Or is it only seal skin that's not allowed, seal fur is okay?

A lot of these cantles are stock items. It may be used by more than on sporran maker. Unless there is a maker's stamp on it somewhere it could be difficult to identify.

The back of the sporran is a bit different with the stud closure and flap...versus the usual top opening to the bag.
There is no access to the bag on this white fur sporran.

Pretty sure that is not seal. Could be rabbit or Bovine or badger
Doesn't really matter though that looks like a great find 👍

I own two sealskin sporrans, both white, both purchased new in the 1970s. The fur on this sporran sure looks like sealskin to me. The fur of the white coat seals (i.e. newborn baby harp seals under two weeks of age) is much softer, finer and longer than that of older seals. That's why it was the fur of choice for dress sporrans until the hunting of white coat seals was banned in Canada 30 years ago. Bovine fur is very short and quite coarse. It is easily distinguishable from white coat seal fur. Rabbit fur can look a bit similar to the white coat fur, but tends to be more fluffy and sheds somewhat. Badger would not normally be white.
