    Camel hair Balmoral?

I am planning to try my hand at making a bonnet from the pattern in the tutorial section and began thinking... Camel hair?

I am an avid thrifter, and see camel hair coats all the time, usually with cig burns or worn patches. I pass them by, but maybe not the next one.

So what do you fellows think of a camel hair bonnet?

For that matter, ever see a camel hair kilt coat?

There is no reason the bonnet can't work if you find a suitable donor jacket. I have a bunch of them I made from a pattern I originally developed for Harris Tweed scraps, and a couple of them came from bargain sport coats. So far, the only one that's really giving me trouble is one from waxed cotton. It is a big enough weight/bulk difference that I'm going to need to figure out the interfacing better for it to hold its shape nicely.

I bought a nice grey windowpane checked camel hair sport coat with the intent of re-cutting it into a kilt jacket. Once it arrived though, if fit so well that I decided not to chop it up. It's really nice soft fabric. Who would'a thunk that ugly nasty old camels would be so soft and fluffy?

I actually planned to wear it with a khaki coat I have.

Good quality camel hair Saxon coats aren't so easy to find in my size in the thrift stores here in the southeast. In fact, I have one, on years of looking

But I do come across the occasional one that doesn't fit, or has burn holes or excessive wear in spots. One of those will be my donor.

If I find a second good o e to fit, I'll be cutting it down though.
