Technically, our colours are not red and black; they are black and scarlet (it was drilled into me as a freshman having to learn about the history of the school). Though for most people, red and black will do.

See if you can find one with red and black and maybe the occasional gold and/or white.

Just make sure your kilt looks good with the school colours!

Also, you may be interested in the SDSU tartan I've designed (you can find it somewhere on here in my old posts).
I'm more interested in a simple tie in the two colors that were official while I was attending, scarlet (of course you are correct there) and black. I saw a tie for a current U.K. Regiment using red, black, and gold so I'll avoid that and including white makes it look like a white stripes album to me.

Your tartan is an interesting idea. My family is associated with clan Donald though so that's the tartan I chose for my kilt. I think that ties are a fairly traditional way to show university associations though. What year did you graduate if I might ask?

I was, however, thoroughly chagrined.

By and large, I don't wear striped ties anymore. It is worth it to me to avoid offense to those who earned the right to wear their ties or other mementos or insignia.

Did you wear that tie simply because you liked the colors and would you have been as chagrined if you had some other affiliation with them? What if you had attended the university of Arizona (cardinal and navy colors) and picked the tie because of that?

    Just curious.

I think that I wouldn't have been as embarrassed if the colors in the tie had a connection to me. Had they been my college's colors, say, I would have had a response. As it was, all I could say was that I didn't know the tie was that of the Coldstream Guards. As I said, the gentlemen who asked was quite gracious. He himself was from the regiment and thought he had found a comrade. As it was, he had only located a somewhat clueless American Vice Consul.

He could probably tell that it was an honest mistake with no malice intended. I'm glad he was gracious about it. He sounds like a gentleman and a credit to his unit.

Makes sense to get a simple two-colour tie.

I was class of 2012 for my BM and 2014 for my Teaching Credential. What about you?
