As I am kilted almost every day, so Kilted Friday is nothing special, however, this Friday I had to visit a dentist in a nearby town and after parking up spotted another gent in a kilt, which is an almost unheard of occurrence in Derbyshire. He was on holiday from Yorkshire and travelling in what I gathered was a fairly special vehicle.



I asked them where they were staying, they told me, and as it was quite close to where I live, I said I'd drop round later to see them, didn't ask - just stated and had to go for my appointment. Sometime later, just when my wife was thinking about cooking dinner, went round, thinking half an hour, not sure if I would actually be welcome or not.

Well half an hour turned into a very pleasant and interesting 2 hours as they had just had dinner. He like me turned out to be something of an engineer, has seven tractors amongst other things and wears his kilt whenever he is not working.



Got home, eventually, discovered wife had skipped lunch and was ravenous so was definitely in the doghouse Friday night and still not sure if I've been forgiven.

Needless to say he was much better turned out than me in my casual daily garb.



The next day he phoned to tell me there was a re-enactment going on locally, which I didn't know about so popped down, missed all the action but had a chat with a couple of the characters.

Kilted Sunday, instead.

Pretty Wife had tickets, courtesy of Daughtergirl, to give a listen to one Mr. Neil Gaiman at Benaroya Hall. Surprisingly, although she hasn't been a fan of my "wool skirt," Herself noted that it might be a fine evening to wear the kilt.



Stockin's are "Lewis hose" from Cheviot, which have been a mixed bag. Ordered a pair each in Ancient Blue and Tartan Green. The green ones arrived with one cuff partially separated from the sock body. I've returned them, and now wait to see what happens next. For patronymic reasons, I like being able to order "Lewis hose."

I'll eventually sort out some more appropriate footwear; until then, penny loafers will have to do.

Gaiman closed with a neat, vaguely poetic bit about writing and writing avoidance, centered on the building of a chair. I've built tables and dressers and trellises and chests and even a couple of books, but never a chair.

Perhaps it's time to finish that novel.
