I decided to dress it up a little this Friday. The cool, and slightly damp, weather we are currently having here in the Northeast afforded me the opportunity to try out a recently converted tweed blazer. I think I should have probably left it an inch longer in the body, but live and learn. i paired it with a Stillwater heavyweight wool saffron kilt and brick red hose. I'm always amazed how eager people are to approach and discuss their familial ties to Scotland and/or Ireland when I'm kilted.

Looking good! You're quite right, wearing the kilt almost always leads to discussion of Gaelic/Celtic genealogy for me also (my maternal great-great grandfather was "100%" Scots-Irish) which, along with the meaning and etymology of Gaelic/Celtic surnames and related heraldry, is one of my favorite subjects...

Do like the colour of your kilt, colours of your outfit go together well. I think that because you are long limbed it makes the jacket appear shorter than it actually is, it may be worth pinning the arms up an inch to see if it alters the look and if it does then shorten them. I don't have that problem being built like the dwarves from lord of the rings - short arms, legs and barrel like body.

Whatever you decide it still looks very sharp.

Wasn't thinking about it being friday but tossed on the kilt yesterday for a family trip to Howes Cavern which was really busy. Ended up in line next to a family that was discussing my kilt because their son had wanted to wear his kilt to the cavern but they didn't think that it would have been appropriate. We waited in line for the next 40 minutes chatting about kilts as I got them addicted to the sportkilt website as the father wanted to get a nicer, affordable kilt to replace the costume kilts that they currently own.

First kilted day and Friday ever. I wore my Kerr ancient hunting with sky blue shirt and charcoal waist coat, matching socks, back hunting sporran with matching shoes.

Would I do it again, hell yes, bring on next Friday, will definitely be wearing it for more than special occasions - got to promote it as just great clothing.

Thank you for sharing a very familiar day (minus Stonehenge, you lucky man), and you described the experience well. After a few months, if you have a Friday when you don't wear a kilt, you'll get just as many questions why you 'stopped' While I also love the regular Friday, you do start to wonder, 'why just Friday?'.

What are your impressions of the wool in the Stillwater kilt? I've been looking for a wool Saffron kilt and didn't come across this one. The price point is good and it pairs really well with the boots and jacket/waistcoat. How tall are you if you don't mind my asking?

JasonMc - I'm 6' 1" tall. As far as the Stillwater wool kilt goes....its a nice kilt, fairly well made. The wool used is not woven as tight/smooth as that from a Scottish weaver, so it has a rougher hand. I think the kilt is worth the asking price. Just don't expect it to fit like a bespoke kilt.

I've reached the point that it is noticed when I don't wear a kilt on Friday. My excuse was the Oiler's jersey, to which the inquisitor withdrew his 8yds of Alberta waiting to be given the kiltmaker, placed it against me and said - "poor excuse, doesn't clash at all"

My son who's 4 was delighted to have his kilt show up today, it is a touch large, he's tall but on the skinnier side so I had to add a hole to each strap but he loves it. He's been wanting one for a while so his first kilt day was a kilted friday. He isn't handling the fact that he can't wear it to bed very well.

My son's eight grade dance is tonight. He has insisted that he would wear his kilt to the event. We live in Mississippi. (The deep South of the U.S.) Most people in our area do not have a clue what a kilt is. I get crazy looks from many when I wear mine. I was worried that as a 13 year old kid, he would get made fun of all night. He said he didn't care. His mother and I insisted that if he wore it, he would wear it right. Well, after a new shirt and borrowing my sporran, vest, hose, and boots(yes, we need to buy him his own), we headed off to the dance. He even convinced me to wear one of mine to drop him off.
