    Reusing tartan fabric.....

I'm a charity ( thrift ) shop junkie and one of the things I look for especially whilst travelling around Scotland is older ladies pleated tartan skirts. Many are long and have scads of fabric. Recently found a weathered Buchanan one and a beautiful wine red tartan which I've not identified yet. I labouriously unpick them and handwash the fabric to remove creases. Planning a project or 2 with these. Anyone else re-use wool fabric either tartan or tweed ? Not sure if this is the correct forum for this topic btw !

I know Nathan did that for a waistcoat in his tartan, there was enough with the hostess skirt to make it on the bias and it is wonderful. Here is a photo of us at a Highland Games last summer.

I agree with ctBuchanan that the tartan you found is lovely and a great find. Please post your results as your project progresses.

Something I've learned is to put second-hand woolens in a plastic bag and freeze them for 3 days to kill any moth eggs that might be hitchhiking into my closet.
