Kilted Fridays Adventures

What an overall delightful day. Gym, coffee, and gardening with Pretty Wife, followed by an Indian buffet lunch with friends (I succeeded, mostly by luck, in keeping goat curry and my most-beloved butter chicken off my kilt apron). Ran an errand or two, then picked up the Teenster and her friend from the school bus stop and schlepped them across town to shop a bit in Ballard.

Whilst they were exercising whatever sophisticated sartorial wisdom drives youth these days, we poked around coffee and furniture shops, resulting in this nice, big ice bucket for deck parties with friends. Back home, PW and T headed for grocery shopping while I poked through the neighborhood for a few minutes with Viki, our pint-sized (at <110 lbs.) Great Dane.

While out wandering the mean streets of suburbia, met a U.S. Missions volunteer named Skip and had a nice chat comparing experiences, in and out of the army vs. his serving with Head Start after being arrested for being a C.O. during the Vietnam conflict. I passed him a fin, and received in return a carefully handwritten receipt.

I'm keeping the kilt, the wife, and the dog. The teen we have to let go in about three years. I do hope she'll keep in touch, as she is turning out to be a truly delightful young woman.

My Friday was spent working at a historic event, playing bagpipes and teaching 4th graders about the role of Scots in the fur trade. I was wearing my 1790s style 4 yard box-pleat that I made. Actually... other than my shoes (purchased) and bonnet (my wife knit it), all of my clothes were sewn by myself. The sporran was rebagged by me, and the dirk and sgian were forged and made by me.

Visiting San Diego and donned the Freedom Grey PV with tan hose and short sleeve shirt. Visited Celtic Corner in Coronado. Great little shop. Chris was quite pleasant as I browsed and took a couple of pics of items for some decisions.
A few comments, non untoward. One pic with server at lunch. Was her birthday and she insisted

Went to work kilted yesterday, and then on to an exhibition squash match between two of the top collegiate men players on the east coast. Unbelievable talents on the court. I wore the MacTavish Red. My daughter snapped this photo after I had returned home.

Not Friday, but Saturday I took my other half and one of her daughters to a Sons of the American Revolution ceremony celebrating
the placement of an SAR marker at the grave of MH's gggg-grandfather, John W. Colley, in a family cemetery lost in the woods in a
very rural area in Wilkes County, Georgia, which predates the Revolution. In conversation about proper dress with the president,
I said I was asking because I no longer have slacks as I am usually in a kilt; his immediate reply was that a kilt would be great.
Wore Rocky's semi traditional clergy tartan. One of the color guard, dressed in Colonial Army uniform, came over to show me a
photo of him in a kilt at another event. Several folk commented that they loved seeing me there in it. Several started genealogy
conversations, and one guy said I must be a lot braver than he is (he is a fireman in Washington, the county seat, population
about 5,000). Met several folk descended from the honoree, so cousins of MH, but who are also third cousins of mine through
Asa Duggan, a Baptist minister and educator through much of the 19th century. My family line has been gone from Wilkes County
for more than two hundred years, so a pleasant surprise.

Happy that today's work schedule allows for the AB worn casually on a beautiful, sunny Friday. Much better today than if worn in our 100kph winds two days ago

Was Mon not Fri, but...

Had the AB Tartan dressed up rather well for a medals presentation ceremony we hosted. Was a lovely day so rather than stop, parked the car when arriving home and walked back the short way for mailbox pick up. On the way back to the house, head down sifting through envelopes, I hear a lady's voice say "I can't whistle, but I'll make an attempt" Looked over to see her hanging out her 3/4T window. Go ahead, I encouraged her. She was correct - she can't whistle even a squeak. We had a chuckle, I thanked her for the attempt and she drove off.
