I made both sporrans. You can check out it's construction in "new brass cantle design" in the DIY showroom forum

Two sporrans that I was bought as a birthday gift. Made by The Dapper Dead which is run by a friend and close neighbour. I love taxidermy and wear these as shoulder bags when my boyfriend isn't using them as proper sporrans

a few sporrans I made awhile ago and a few newer ones ,

I know some of these have been posted before but I chose to showcase them in a group as they cover a lot of styles when viewed that way.

A few more sporrans in this series

Most all of these sporrans were created with scrap or recycled materials. A couple were modified sporrans bought on ebay.

This is the one I usually wear, either with the chain or a matching strap.

and this one eventually got some neat horsehair tassels that I found on line.

What does one call this type of sporran? I have heard them referred as hunting, Duncan and Targa.

"Hunting" as far as I know, but I'm no expert on this stuff. I just found them to be a nice mid point between simple and fancy. I've never had the chance to inspect a real one up close. I just saw them in photos and thought, "Oh, I can make something like that."

Todd, I love this belt and the sporran as well. Beautiful detailing on both.

I thought I would share a couple sporrans here, these 2 are the latest in my collection

Day sporran handed down from my girlfriend's grandfather:

When I was first given this I thought it was not my style, it has since grown on me and is now a favourite of mine.

    Horsehair from 1911

This one came from an estate sale a friend bought it and asked me if I wanted to buy it from him. As I've been looking for a while I said yes.

    Well done McMurdo.
I'm interested in the story behind the first sporran McMurdo. Does the ring on the front serve any purpose? Did your girlfriend's grandfather do the leatherwork himself? The design has a south seas look about it. Very interesting to my eye. I rather wonder if matching leather ribbon tassels off the sides of the sporran and perhaps off the ring in the front would be less distracting to the beautiful leatherwork?
