    Kilted at friend's daughter's wedding ...

Broke out the Scotland Forever for a wedding of the daughter of a family friend. Bride's mother loves purple ")

    Was asked "the question" ...

    ... wait for it

... "how long have you been in this country?"

My bride almost choked back tears
She said I should have replied back in Gaelic ... any phrase.

My bride's a sept of Clan MacDonald (MacBride); I suspect that her not correcting my crooked tie was malicious neglect imparted to a proud member of Clan Campbell (MacVicar).

It could have been worse. The bride could have adjusted your tie while commenting, "Bless your heart". You know of the syrupy sweet backhanded way a Southern Belle can make those words sound. I think all is well on both fronts. Good showing in my opinion.

A crooked bow tie just shows you tied it yourself, nothing wrong with that. Congratulations to the happy couple.
