Photobucket
Hi moderators
Photobucket has very recently changed its terms of use so that they no longer permit those with free accounts to have photos in their Photobucket albums appear in another web site, and every picture I've ever posted on XMarks is in my Photobucket albums. They now require subscription payment for 3rd party hosting. AND their lowest subscription level ($59.99/year) does not allow this. And neither does their $99.99/year subscription rate. I would need to subscribe at the rate of $399.99/year (!!!) in order to be able to have the photos in my Photobucket albums show up in XMarks.
You have no idea how upset I am about this. In principle, I am willing to transfer photos to another site if someone can suggest an alternative that has a different ethos, but I cannot even imagine how long it would take me to replace the images in all the XMarks posts I've made over the years. I am just steaming mad.
Does anyone have a suggestion?

I may have just answered my own question. When I joined XMarks, the only way to have an image appear was to post a link to an external server (like Photobucket). Is it now possible to actually upload images directly from my computer to the Forum??

Hi Barb! I have also used Photobucket in the past, and still have photos on there I don't recall getting any update emails from them, but they may not have my most current email!
Anyway, they used to offer, and still may, the service to burn all your photos on the Photobucket site to a CD/DVD and then mail it to you. That would at least give you a copy of all your pictures.
And yes, you can upload pictures directly to Xmarks now, with some minor restrictions on picture file size. Here is a random picture from my PC:
Hope that helps, but unfortunately with the number of helpful pictures you have shared, it will be a loss when they go away. And I am 100% behind you in not paying the outrageous fee Photobucket is asking.

Well, it's going to take me a long time to get all my photos updated in the main threads I've posted, and I have no idea how I'll find all the old ones buried in other threads.
What if I run across a locked thread - can I edit it, or do I have to ask you to unlock each one that I need the photos in?

Wow. I thought "surely she is mistaken", so I went and looked it up on their site. And yep, as of yesterday, the TOS has changed so that we can no longer link to images hosted by them without upgrading to $399/year service.
Looks like I'll be closing down my Photobucket account.

Yup - I am in shock. Am slowly starting to replace images in XMarks.....and then will completely shut down my Photobucket account.

At this point Barb we will have to work through this one post at a time.
Time consuming for you.
Just let me know if you find one you can't edit.

For the ones that are not in my two "areas", would you need the thread title to locate it?

OK - I am slogging along. I have now downloaded and replace 108 photos, and I'm only about 3/4 of the way done with just the Hints and Tips from Barb T and my advertiser's section. My eyes are crossing, and I need a beer....more tomorrow (photos, not beer... )
