The rule about it having to be a new pic is the deal-killer for me, because I just don't take pictures of myself all the time. I'm kilted on a regular basis doing piping gigs but for me to end up with a pic of myself is a very rare circumstance, say the family I'm playing for going out of their way to track down my email and send me a pic. It happens once every few years maybe.
Think about it: I'm playing at somebody's wedding or funeral, I suddenly stop playing and hand somebody my phone and say "hey can you take a picture of ME?" Ain't gonna happen.
Likewise I'm kilted at Highland Games all the time but I'm taking pictures of other people.
And the challenges like the one about shopping etc. For working pipers the kilt is kind of like the professional diver's wet suit: specific kit for doing a specific job. You ain't going shopping in mask and fins with a tank of air on your back, and I'm not going to put on a $700 kilt and $80 socks to do yard work or go to the shopping mall.
My challenges would be absurd, but they're the only recent photos I have.
Like "take a photo of yourself piping in front of an armoured vehicle"

Could be problematical re. Rule 11, though not in the the above one.
If you are going to do it, do it in a kilt!

Well OK, as the thread is trying to re-start, perhaps the rules, with the benefit of experience, could be adjusted? All that is needed is a new thread started with adjusted rules. Although having said that, new pictures in my view, are always a refreshing bonus rather than the same old ones trotted out again.

Perhaps we could open it up to any photo not previously posted anywhere? At first I thought about saying not more than a month old, but that is hard to police, however not previously posted would get fresh photos, even if it does not get people going out of their way to take pictures specifically for the post. However it does open up the opportunity for people to post seasonal pictures which ever hemisphere they are in if that is what the challenge requires.
Be interesting to see what the OP @CDNSushi thinks.

Yes indeed Sushi ought really to be consulted on this, but your ideas work for me.

Hey all....
When I first started the thread, the idea I had was to create what could be best described as a photo scavenger hunt... in that someone would post a goal, and challenge others to see if they could go out and find it, kilted of course, and record the evidence. That was the reason for disallowing previously taken photos. A part of it was steeped in the hope that it would encourage people to get outside and do things whilst kilted, rather than scouring through old photo libraries in their basements.
I can appreciate that threads may change over time as interest waxes and wanes, and with the comings and goings of members and it has also been a longstanding tradition on XMarks that OPs ultimately retain ownership or control of their threads, and could request that, if a thread has served its purpose, could be closed.
I think that, after 51 pages, we may be at that juncture and I may have to ask myself, if this thread is still fulfilling its intended purpose or if I should close it, and have a new one (with modified rules and expectations, as laid out above) take its place. I don't think it would be wise to have TWO such threads, as I think participation in BOTH would suffer as a result.
I will give it some thought, and if anyone wishes to add something to my consideration, feel free to PM me.... but for now, I am considering these two options: a) continue the thread with no further rule modifications with the hope of the thread fulfilling the intended purpose (but realizing that it may be frustrating for certain would-be participants), or b) closing this thread to allow a fresh game, with reversing rule changes that would change the nature of the thing.
Emotionally, i am fine with either outcome, as it has been fascinating to see how some people have gone out to meet the various challenges in creative ways, and it's okay to move on. I am also fine with a different game taking the place of this one.
I will try to come back to this within the next 48hours so people know where they're at! :-) thanks for your participation and patience everyone! JD
After-thought edit... maybe two threads WOULD work if the thread titles were specific enough... E.g... "kilted photo scavenger hunt and "Kilted photo challenge."

Now that I've had a chance to sleep on it, I think I've come to a conclusion regarding the game...
I still find myself drawn by the necessity of having to actually go out, kilted, to satisfy the terms of the challenge, rather than accessing an existing photo library.
I realize that this may slow the thread down (even to the point of eventually being locked for lack of participation). But that's the way it goes. There have been a number of threads on this forum that have lived long, useful, and entertaining lives. One of my personal faves was the "punography" thread in misc.
With all that said, I've gone ahead and renamed the thread to reflect its intent: a kilted photo scavenger hunt... Now, if somebody wants to kick off a fresh thread where previously taken photos are acceptable, then please -- by all means do so. Clearly, there are those who will be glad to take part, quite possibly me included. :-)
Above all, whether you choose to continue to take part in THIS thread, or to move on to other things, have fun with it! Continue to take plenty of photos of your kilted exploits and share them with the community! That's what it's all about!

So that would appear to leave us with: kilted at a craft show as posted by derosa?
If you are going to do it, do it in a kilt!

The craft show one may be tricky. I don't know about anyone else but around here they tend to come in mid-late fall as something to buy for Christmas...

Not necessarily. I would guess that someting like this, held regularily throughout the year would count:

Not that it would help me as I am usually on my bike, so not usually kilted when I visit the area, where there are other frequent craft events.
