A couple of nice things happened this weekend
If it is a weekend running errands or going shopping or I am on vacation or I am working from home, I am normally wearing one of my kilts. Normally, I get comments of nice kilt (surprisingly normally from ladies) or questions about why I wear it or what clan, etc. But, this weekend was a little different.
On Saturday, my wife and I were in a Denny's having breakfast and I was kilted in my Lamont tartan. An older gentleman walks over and he is looking directly at us. When he gets to our table he introduces us and asks me if I know about the St. Andrews Society. As it turns out he is a member of their local society and told me a bit about it and invited me to attend some of their activities and to consider joining. That was the first time that someone with a Scots connection approached me, other than at a celtic event, and it was a nice change. I really hadn't thought about joining the local St. Andrews society but after this conversation I might.
The other event was at a local farmers market. Since we go on Saturday or Sunday I am normally in a kilt, but today I was in Dockers/slacks. Each of the booths we normally go to they said, "Where's the kilt?" I had to smile and I promised to wear it next week. The first time it happened I even offered to go home and change if it meant so much to her.
I know these are both small things but I thought that the Rabble would find it interesting and amusing.

Good to hear you are getting a good reception in a kilt, I've found it is probably 75% of the time that positive comments are from ladies.

I've never had a bad reception wearing a kilt and the compliments do come from the ladies!

Also at the farmers market...
A couple of weeks ago, I was in m kilt at the farmers market and this little old lady with a cane comes up to me and says that she is going to Scotland in a couple of weeks and asked if she will be able to understand what they say over there. I smiled inwardly and told her, "Yes ma'am. They speak English over there, just with a heavy accent. You should be fine." She smiled and went on her way.

One of the strangest encounters was when myself and a bandmate, in full kit, were in line at a local hamburger place and a fellow came up and began talking to us in an odd accent.
He asked about who we were and why we were wearing kilts.
When we explained that we were pipers and our band had just marched in a local parade he suddenly switched to a Scottish accent, which is his normal one. He told us he was recently arrived in the US and was the Pastor at a local church.
The strange thing is that when he first started talking to us he was using a fake Russian accent! I guess he didn't want us to know he was Scottish until he had figured out why we were dressed in kilts.
I ended up piping at his church a number of times, including piping at his daughter's wedding.
He preached in kilts sometimes, which I thought was cool.
