Hodden Grey Kilt fabric
I have just purchased 4 meters of hodden grey kilt fabric. It's heavyweight MOD fabric. Very inexpensive. For those who might be interested, it's on eBay UK. If I have posted in the wrong forum, please feel free to move the thread.

Purely out of interest, nothing more, who would have made the cloth?

When I visited the Colonial Highland Games in Fair Hill, Maryland, there was a group of London Scottish re-enactors. One is a member here. Their uniforms, as I recall, were all made by one of their members who is a fantastic tailor.
They told me (at least at that time, three years ago) that the fabric was very difficult to obtain. What they did was purchase vintage London Scottish kilts in the typical tiny waist sizes and disassemble them for the fabric they contained.
I imagine they will be happy to hear that the fabric is available.
Here they are

To be honest, I don't know. I've never seen it offered by any of the mills I deal with and even ones I don't. If any information comes with it I'll post it here. Maybe I could contact the seller as well.

Thanks Troy, but please don't burn the midnight oil over it.

It's really no problem. I'm curious as well. Anyway, I contacted the seller (a simple phone call as he posted his number) and he said that he didn't know who wove the fabric and there was no information that came with the fabric. He did say there could be something on the roll when the fabric is gone. We'll know soon if there is as the fabric is going quickly.

Thanks Troy, then let us await the end of the roll with some anticipation ------well a little hope anyway!

Excellent! Hopefully we will, but I must admit the end of the roll would be an unusual place to put a tag with information. When I purchase tartan the tag/sticker is always visible. We'll see, though.

I received my fabric this morning. Very nice. Definitely some weight to it. Unfortunately I won't be able to do anything with it for a while. I have three kilts to make and possibly piper plaids and drummer plaids after that. It's okay, though. it gives me time to decide a few things about how I want my kilt to be.
