Sport Kilt with pockets.

I am looking at getting a sport kilt from sportkilt.com. Has anyone gotten one with pockets? If so, would you recommend getting one with pockets?

I have a Utility Kilt and it has the Side Pockets that are separate and hang down from the Kilt. They don't have that much free space, and are set back on the Waist to hang down straight when I am standing. so I find them hard to reach for things that I have in them. I don't know about pockets actually stitched into the kilt. The best person to ask would be Steve the Forum Owner, as he has a Shop in Victoria, where he makes kilts, and he could answer your questions more in detail about the pockets..

Most excellent! I know a utility kilt will be in my future. I know that a kilt from Steve would be outstanding! I am just looking for a cheap one to start with, that's why I want to try sportkilt first.

I don't wear my Utility Kilt everyday, usually reserve it for Friday when I am working with my Seniors. Once I wore it to Church, and everyone loved it. They asked me the Next Sunday, where my Kilt was. I wear my Kilt Hose n' Flashes, sometimes the Ghillie Shirt, other times White Shirt n' Tartan Tie. That is just me, I don't like wearing it Casual as some do, and with me a Sporran is a must. Is your Kilt you are planning on buying a Tartan, or a solid Colour?

As I wear the Kilt, I am getting more comfortable wearing it in public, and I found that the Ladies like to see a fellow in a Kilt. I am reminded of the Line from the ZZ Top Sharp Dressed Man song "Cause every girl crazy 'bout a sharp dressed man" ....

Are you referring to the hidden side pockets available as an add-on to their standard model? Because only the more expensive models come with external cargo pockets, and then you're better off with a utility kilt if you still want something in the truly inexpensive range.

I have a sport kilt, and I feel I should tell you that the fabric is very light. It's their own 8oz polyester blend (poly-acrylic, maybe, but I'm not sure), not the 12oz polyviscose from Marton Mills. And as I've said before, I consider it the kilt equivalent of sweat pants or gym shorts. It's fine for working out, or for throwing on when there's an unexpected knock on the door and I don't wanna answer it in my underwear. But it's not something I'd wear to work or to run errands, never mind going out with my friends...and definitely not for windy days.

If you feel adventuresome and/or have sewing experience, you could download the X-Kilt directions available here and/or online and build your own or even go all out and purchase Barbara Tewksbury's book "The Art of Kiltmaking" and have a go at building a traditional hand sewn kilt. I have done both now (even went to Killt Kamp this summer) and am happy with both results. I have found that you if you do decide to try your hand at kilt making you will always be able find help here on X Marks.

As you know from Kilt Kamp, if the guy wants pockets in his kilt neither the X Kilt nor Barb's book will give him that option.

Then again, he could attend next years Kilt Kamp, and take the Contemporary course with me.

Yup, I do realize this but, it might get him into a new kilt a little quicker and leave him with the satisfaction of making it himself. I know that I wish I could be there to take your class.

I wear a french cuff shirt with suspenders, tie and cuff links everyday to work, so I appreciate the ZZ Top 'Sharp Dressed Man' reference.

With this sport kilt, I would keep it casual with school mascot t-shirts.

Once I can afford a formal kilt, I will go for the formal top, matching the kilt. Thank you for sharing!

I doubt there are many left, but DNKE has some discontinued camo patterns, in their tactical kilt, normally $99, on for $39, until they sell out.

I have SKs with and without the side slash pockets. What I notice is that regardless of what is in the pockets of the kilt if it is too close to the body at the rump line, both of the pockets tend to gap open a bit and the right side apron edge hangs to the left a bit and exposes some of the under apron. As it doesn't happen without pockets, I think it is due to the lack of sideways support across the pocket slash area and the tug of the pleats opens the area instead of the aprons being able to take the strain. My SKs are almost all strapless Originals.
