I would wear the following: Coast Guard kilt, Belt with Coast Guard buckle. Tennis shirt with Coast Guard emblem, Blue hose and black brogues. Head dress, beret with Coast Guard badge.
When I represent Sams I wear my Hunting Stewart Trews ( I served in the Royal Scots). For casual dress I wear either my family kilt or Royal Stewart Kilt (Royal Scot Piper tartan). Green hose and black brogues, Regimental or SAMS tennis shirt. Depending on the temperature, I wear usually my bush hat which I wore on operations when I served.
Hope this helps, it is just my tuppence.
Aye Yours
Jim

Plan to follow your advice. Received the USCG Sport Kilt, very pleased with it, not a traditional Scottish made kilt, but nice to wear to Scottish Games. It has a nice fit, very pleased.
My intention is not to represent the USCG as an active member, but respectfully honoring my branch of service, as a veteran, big difference. I hope SAMS is at the Richmond Games would like to talk to them.

Seriously though....Wear what you are comfortable with, and what makes you feel right...after all, through service, I believe you have earned that..
What ever you do....have fun with it.

We have been for the last few years. I haven't been involved with the planning this year, and I'm away from home right now. I'll check for sure this week and get back to you, but I am just about certain SAMS Post of the Potomac will be there.

Iya I... Dad was Navy, 1938 - 1945, 1st Class Ship-fitter on the USS Harry Lee, and USS Calvert. both APC... Wish you were there the day I enlisted in the USCG.....he could not help but call me every nickname the CG has, but I got him on one of our Cutters for a day at sea, and he told me later, he should have joined the CG.... Cool Chief, I was 2nd Class Radioman, made 2nd class is less then three years, and one year was spent in the field as a Seaman. Only contact with the Navy was at GITMO, and they were the FTG people, so very little contact. Passed 1st Class test, signed off all the practical factors, but CG wanted me to re-enlist before they would give me the stripe, I chose another route in life. Enjoyed all the time in the CG, was able to do almost everything from being on a flight crew of a HU-16 Albatross, Radioman on ship and small boat station. Great times, and ironically, my current job allows me to still work with the CG as I work for US Customs and the Border Protection.... Retirement is getting close, real close. CHEERS
