military surplus sporrans
Has anyone here ever handled the plain leather Royal Regiment of Scotland sporrans? I see a few on ebay and they seem to be well priced if they are of good quality. I figure it would be an ideal day dress sporran.
Before it even comes up, this would be worn plain with no insignia. Just a brown leather sporran.
Thanks all.
An example of what I'm talking about here.

I've never seen the sporrans, but if it's genuine military surplus then I can't imagine it not being good quality. Since kilt-cut casual jackets don't seem to be a thing, I bought a surplus Scottish Army dress jacket for everyday wear. And even after dying it black and wearing it for the better part of a year, the only sign of wear is a slight roughing of the lining of the pocket where I tend to keep my keys. And like that sporran, there was no insignia in that the regiment-specific buttons were not included, so I had to add my own "civvy" buttons to it...but at least a sporran can still function without an insignia on it.

I have one. It's very well made and very roomy.

Do you have any pix of the jacket? I've been contemplating something similar.

Do you have any photos of yourself wearing it? I can't seem to find any online of the royal highland regiment wearing them. They always seem to be in camo pants or, if kilted, in their horse hair dress sporrans.
Thanks for the reply btw. It's good to hear that they are well made.

The first photo is me wearing the sporran, but it doesn't show the sporran very well. The other photo is from the Royal Regiment of Scotland Dress Regulation.

You are probably better off asking the seller. I believe they would vary a bit depending on to whom they were issued, but you will need to know about the one you want to buy.

Not any really good ones...though I've been planning to take some soon as I'll be making an additional mod to it in the coming week. However, I'll start a new thread so that this one can be about the sporran rather than military surplus in general.
