I have always understood that moths tend to munch on unclean rather than clean garments. Whether that is true or not, I don't know. However, I take the precaution anyway of storing every one of my kilts, woollen, cotton, synthetic, leather or whatever, by hanging them in separate, sealed clothes bags inside closed wardrobes.
That is as much to keep them clean as to keep the moth out! 8)
