Wow a leather strap with broguing sounds perfect. I haven't seen it before but that seems great.

Chain and strap versions with broguing on the leather portions. It gets rather tedious punching all those holes, one by one, and your straps need to be two layers thick, with a perforated layer over a solid backing layer, but they look nice. These are veg-tanned and made from leather around 4 oz. in weight to keep them from getting too thick. The chain portion is a re-purposed curb chain off of eBay - plated stainless steel and it cost about $12.

I would think they are as nice as I'd ever need or want. A matching set in black and regular stainless would be perfection.

I know this isn't what the OP was thinking for 'braid' but, since it IS braided leather, I figure I should share...

Thanks because that was the kind I would think to be acceptable for a braided leather to be considered more of a "fancy " look

Many tend to overthink and overdo kilt attire requirements and it is only when one enters into to the more rarified atmosphere of the seriously formal attire requirements do these thoughts start to apply.

Yup. I wear a plain black belt for my sporran always, because I like it; with a jacket and waistcoat, the chain is barely visible anyway.

Thank you - yes I am probably guilty of that. Next month I'll be going to our St. Andrew's Society ball and am trying to prepare, it is formal but not White Tie. I've never been to such an event so I don't have first-hand experience.

Honestly, I don't even own a chain, and although I might like a nice one some day, it's a long, long way from being at the top of my priority list, even for very formal events.

I do want to get just a nice leather belt but was wondering if anyone viewed it as an issue, here on the Traditional board, to not wear a chain. Like was mentioned it is probably overthought but I was wondering - thank you Father Bill

If you have any DIY at all, a source for good leather sporran straps is thrift shop purses. Some even have chains
