Lighter Traditional Kilts
Jimmy Carbomb said: "This has LONG been my beef with kilts these days. Take a GOOD look at a tank, and you'll see what I mean. UtiliKilts and AmeriKilts STILL don't know how to make a proper taper. That's why the things pucker like a baby eating lemons. Bear DOES know how to handle a taper, and has the only kilts that I've seen that can accomodate real hips. Otherwise, you are going to have to get a Scottish Authentic Handsewn kilt... MADE BY TRAINED, EDUCATED, CAREFUL, CRAFTWORTHY, AND AUTHENTIC KILT MAKERS. It does NOT have to be an 8+ yarder... just one that's made by and educated kiltmaker."
This quote from Jimmy, in another thread, brings up an interesting point and that is the traditional kilt that some kilt makers call their "casual" .
I have what Burnett's & Struth call their casual made with 4 yds of 13oz wool. It has the traditional fit. The pleats on it are like knives, just like my 8yd/16oz that I have from them, but are not as many which makes it much more suitable for everyday wear.
Also, although not considered a traditional, Bearkilts, as Jimmy says, have the same precision. I have two of them, 4yds.
