Something, I neglected to post. I'm happy to see other that have anything from previous generations. Close or distant past, doesn't matter. It's something that I'm guilty of.

Thank you, I thought it looked like the Gunn tartan. I have one in muted but it didn't turn out like I had hoped, wish that I had ordered the modern or ancient. (more on that later)

    Black and brown

Just for the record, most, if not all Highland military undress uniforms feature a simple brown leather sporran, paired with black or sometimes brown brogued shoes. There has never really been a requirement to “match.” Most military folks also wear simple lovat green or a plain muted hose. My sporran is probably 50years old and except for some wear near the stud closure, it is still quite serviceable. In my mind, that works for most occasions and would certainly not be considered “wrong” except for the formal occasions.

In the end, whether you choose black or brown (or both), new or used, I would recommend a leather sporran as a first purchase. And as for matching, I like to see matching straps/belts rather than shoes.

I just wanted to offer a public (forum) 'Thank You' to FossilHunter. He tipped me off to a, made in Scotland, eBay sporran. I bid, I won. The second miracle in 2000 years, me lucky. Hopefully, I won't be, too, disappointed with my $19.99 purchase (including post). I'll let all know, near the end of next week.

The bargain gets better. The seller is tossing in a sporran belt. Used very little. Apparently, he preferred the ones, he made. Also, a list of related items he's needing to peddle.
