    Just ordered a Balmoral

For some reason I feel like the flat cap I've been wearing just doesn't look quite right with the kilt... not bad... just not exactly the look I'm after. I ordered the tan one because I think it will do best in the approaching warmer weather and the color should also work with anything. I'm slightly concerned about looking like I'm wearing a costume or something however, but a regular ball cap with a kilt just looks crazy to me. So far my biggest challenge regarding wearing the kilt is finding the appropriate headgear.

I've been wearing a "flat cap" for more than 50 years , and I am not about to change......some will think it not right when wearing a kilt, but I'm not concerned about that . I don't wear my kilted attire as a costume or to please others, I wear them because they give me pleasure and so do my "News boy" caps........I certainly appreciate your concerns though........What ever gives ya' pleasure when wearing a kilt is most important.........cheers

I like the color and I think this will look quite good.

It’s certainly the most appropriate and traditional choice. Ball caps signify poor taste in so many combinations.

    Hats off to you

Just received my dark blue TAM. Gose really well with both the kilts that I have but so dose my Balmoral, I'm getting more comfortable every day with my Kilts and have all three kinds of Scottish hats and flat caps, cowboy hats but never a baseball cap with the Kilts. Enjoy your Kilt days and livin it up with the hats.

Terry, just to be clear,it's not really so much that I think the flat cap looks bad or wrong with the kilt but mine definitely is a winter looking cap. I will be on the lookout for a more suitable flat cap for warm weather. That way I can go more casual with the flat cap and still have something more traditional with the Balmoral.

Thanx for your reply about the flat cap.....I do agree that your new "chapeau" looks very nice, very nice indeed , I really like the colour you have chosen.....You've made a grand choice
I probably have a ½ dozen "news boy" caps ....they are distinguished from a "flat cap" by having been made up of segments and a button on the top, and like I said I've been wearing that style for over 50 years
They are mostly made of a wool blend and sometimes even tweed. I also have 3 cotton flat caps, almost the same colour as your Balmoral to wear in the summer.
My news boys caps go in and out of style so often that when I find one I like, I usually buy 2 or 3. I've even had to get my wife to take an old cap apart and use it as a pattern so she can make me what I want rather than just buy what style is for sale........I look forward to seeing some photos of yourself in "kilt and cap (Balmoral)"......cheers

I still haven't received the Balmoral, I sent an email to the chap on March 12 asking if possible
to tell me when I could expect it, and received no reply. Seems like a ridiculously long wait for a hat.

I'd heard that about Glengarry Hats, at least if your specific size isn't in stock. I just got really lucky that a UK military surplus seller on eBay had a caubeen in my size, or I might still be waiting for mine, too.

For whatever reason, the 6-8 week wait that is often expected with kilts is sometimes seen with all of the other highlandwear types.
