How have I never noticed that?
Unfortunately mine is a little more solid and ugly at the moment as I await an operation ..... however I think I may just have to decorate a walking stick to celebrate the day.
The dog may have to come along as Bendigo is about three hours from home (the way I drive) so Willie the Wonder Dog will need a suitable scarf or light jacket to attend. I just hope the silly old boy doesn’t try to boss the GLECA Wolfhounds around? For a little Jack Russell x Maltese he sure does think he’s bigger!

Not -so Roving Reporter - Reporting
Well we’re here... as I’m kinda stuck seated for most of the day, your Xmarks reporter shall amuse herself with updates on an Aussie style festival (supposedly Scottish based)
1) The ‘50’s style tartan dress was thrown in the corner in a fit of pique....your reporter isn’t as glamorous as she wishes today.
2) Bendigo is delightful at the moment but high temperatures are expected later.
Rosalind Park is a cool oasis of mature Elms & Oaks with the occasional Palm tree, shady and cool - the grass is even green!
3) The Pipe Bands look rather spiffing and correctly attired.
Bands Competing. [Tartan Worn]
-Hawthorn, [MacKenzie] Moorabbin [ William Bruce] (Grade Two)
- City of Melbourne [Logan Maclennnan], Victoria Scottish [Robertson] (Grade Three)
-Frankston [Macgregor], Golden City[Royal Stewart],Haileybury [Haileybury], Maryborough [ Hunting Stuart], City of Melbourne #2 [ Logan Maclennan], Old Scotch [Gordon], St Arnaud [ Cameron of Erracht], Watsonia [MacBeth] (Grade Four)
Haileybury #1 & #2 [Haileybury] ( Juvenile)
Bendigo Highland [MacPherson] ( non competing)
4) Crimes against the Kilt already seen by 10am
Kilts to short.
Kilts to long.
To short kilt with Tshirt & Leather vest with fringing accessorised with a rather large Viking shield.
Woman wearing a Dirndl.
Footy socks worn with Kilts.
5) Honourable Mentions of good taste and great accessories both casual and traditional.
Most of the clan representatives look good.
(thank god the kilts are the right length)
Some lovely leather and canvas Bahama hats for sun protection.
The little boy in a belted plaid and a cool plastic sword.
Special Mention of the cute pony with his plaid.
I’ve had to miss the parade as I can’t walk that far.
More later when the sword fighting starts...
Your reporter is hanging with the Glen Lachlan Estate College of Arms!

The Parade went well my sources tell me.
In exciting news ... one of the GLECA girls has made 2 sporrans for today.
I’m rather impressed with the quality- I’ve ordered a red one.
First she’s ever made AND her source for information??
X Marks the Scot!
I’m still trying to figure out how to upload pictures.
Pipe Bands warming up behind me
Sword fights in front of me
More Soon!

12pm Report
- Nutella Slice is the go to energy source around here.
- Strange sightings... a Viking is sword fighting a navel cadet in RAN camouflage.
- Cute sightings... little girls in summer blouses with mid calf length kilts and sandals.
- Housemates 1st bout went well and it was close.
- I can’t understand why the lowest score wins???
- A 5’nothing pixie in a mini kilt and bare feet has just beaten a 5’10” instructor (go girls)
- Ooohhhh.... full grappling this bout...Cool! (Thank gawd for body armour)
- Ahhhh.... first to 15 points wins.
- Another fashion crime spotted - belted plaid, grey polo shirt, rest of the plaid flopping everywhere over the torso, black sporran, white socks, brown gillies laced badly up the calf (update:on closer inspection it appears to be brown work shoes with extra long laces)
- Don’t know why they are sword fighting with sporrans on? They have armour and boxes, so it’s not for protection.

Very possibly a good decision. Road construction just north of Dubbo had the potential to turn a 27 hour jaunt into a real trek.
For reference, 13 hours from Plymouth to Inverness, 25 hours from Charleston to Santa Fe, 23 from Ottawa to Winnipeg. A
nice weekend outing.
Does, however, sound like fun was had.
