Birthstone Kilt Pins?
An odd thing, I imagine, but I'm interested in trying to find a kilt pin with an opal birth stone. My wife and I just received news yesterday that we will be losing our unborn child soon, if she hasn't miscarried already. I'm not much for jewelry apart from my wedding band and watch. But, a kilt pin seems like it might be a good place for a reminder of the loved one I'll not get to meet while I tread this earth. The opal would represent when we had hoped to meet them.
Anyhow, if you rabble have any pointers as to where I might look it'd be great! My google-fu is really letting me down on this one.

No ideas on the pin, but my deepest sympathy for your loss. It's a very real one and deeply hurtful, so I understand your wish for this pin. I'm sure that someone here will be able to help, and again, my sympathy for you and your wife both.

Very sorry to hear of your loss. We had a similar situation a year or two before we had our daughter (our one and only). My heart goes out to you.
I didn't have much luck searching for opal kilt pins, but did better when I broadened the search to "opal brooch", as there are lots of Victorian brooches that make lovely kilt pins.
Here are a few links I found:

I am with Father Bill here. I haven't a clue as to where to find an opal kilt pin, but I am very sorry at the sad news.

Condolences on your impending loss.
Might I suggest a custom pin (or a pin for you and a necklace or ring for your wife) with both your and your wife's birthstones on either side of an opal?
Instead of limiting your search to kilt pins, you could look for brooches, stick or tie pins, etc, as well.

Gentlemen,
Thank you very much for the condolences. I've been looking at brooches as you suggested (my wife had actually already had the idea, and found a couple things.) She, by the way, has a charm bracelet already with stones for our two girls, so we'll be adding an opal to it as soon as we find the right one.

I quite like that idea, though, I'm really dense when it comes to this sort of thing. To whom would I turn for such a bauble? Do we have any craftsmen/women in the community who do this sort of thing. (Sorry for my gross ignorance. I hadn't even planned on having a kilt pin at all until this.)

Having custom jewelry made might be a pricey proposition, but here are a couple of links you might find interesting...

I echo the thoughts of other members on your loss. I too have lost an infant (at three hours old) and know the sorrow. You have a great idea for remembrance and may create a trend for those of us living with such a loss. Thank you for that idea.
I hope you find a wonderful piece that will make a fine kilt pin.

Again, thank you all!
I've settled on this little guy for the moment. Funny enough Shaun, shortly after you recommended this my wife found it independently (I'm having a bad google day it seems lol). In the future I'd really like something custom, a bit simpler in design, but what little I've found that's not a financial option right now. This will be a lovely reminder of the child I wait to meet, and the thistle seems an appropriate setting. We have some that grows on the property here, they're beautiful, but unapproachable. And so, my heart desires my child, but I cannot hold them yet.
Again, my deep thankfulness for you all. When I have offered condolences to others in the face of loss, I have always felt my words empty and powerless in the face of it. Let me assure you, that your kindness here has touched me. Though your words may not alter the reality I'm facing today, they do comfort and strengthen me as I face it. Thank you.

I'm so very sorry to hear about your loss; I wish you and your wife the best.
I think an opal stone as part of a kilt pin would be a very personal and beautiful way to pay tribute.I love the thistle pin from McPhee's you shared. I think you could also scour eBay for brooches that can be used as pins.
I only have two "proper" kilt pins in my collection. I mainly use Disney Pins on my Sport Kilts, and I also have brooches that I've used. My brooches were eBay finds. Pretty much anything that could be pinned on a kilt is fair game for a kilt pin, IMHO.
