    Decisions, decisions...

So on 19-20 May, there is a festival here in East Tennessee with a Feis the Thursday prior (17 May). The dress code states “Business casual or party attire and if you have a kilt wear it”.

So I find myself in quite the conundrum between which kilt to wear, so I turn to my favorite collection of rabble rousers for advice. Here are the options:

Casual in American Heritage tartan measured for wear at the jeans waist. It still looks stellar dressed up with a shirt and tie though.

5 Yard Traditional Wool in Nithsdale tartan measured for wear at the true waist. This is the one that my family wore in the Old Country.

I lean toward the casual since it is PV and I could easily wash and dry (laid flat, of course) before wearing it again on the 19th.

I lean toward the Nithsdale since it is what my family wore, but am a little cautious since it is dry clean only and I plan to wear it on Sunday the 20th.

My concerns are based off of the possibility of spilling something on the kilt, whichever one I wear. My wife is planning on wearing a black cocktail “ish” type of dress.

Thank you all, in advance, for your time in this and essentially helping me choose which kilt to wear to a party (talk about first world problems...)

Since neither is the lesser in appearance, seems your two choices are

wear this one and not spill anything on it
wear this one and wash it if I do

Pretty much... I'm leaning more toward the Casual with a nice shirt and tie (maybe). Or whatever my wife says to wear...

    There ya go.

As the old-timer said in response to the secret of their 70 years of marriage: When we got married I told her in no uncertain terms, the hard and difficult decisions would be mine and mine alone. Haven't made one yet."

This insures a long, quiet, uneventful existence. AKA, self preservation mode. I would lean to the casual, easy to clean. Unless anyone there would, really, care about one over the other.

Well, since you asked, I'd think the American Heritage tartan would complement your wife's "little black dress" so I'd go with that one unless she says go with the other in which I totally agree that the other one is way better...

Go with your first instinct (yet appeal to the wife's wisdom). Evenings like the one you are going to attend are usually the true party because everyone will be busy during the Festival. Enjoy the night and games.

Given the deferring to our spouse's opinion, are we cowards, stating cooperativeness, or wanting to claim some wisdom to deferring? The latter, two, could be smoke screens to the former.

    Wear both!
The Wool dressed up to the Feis
The casual PV at the daytime festival.

Your wife will have a few different outfits for the events... why can’t you?

I have no shame in admitting that I snorted as I laughed at this response.... even with how true it is!
