To be fair, the actual information in the article is decent, albeit VERY condensed and simplified.

The title of the article is "The Dos and Don'ts of Wearing a Kilt". I'm pretty sure the photo is intentionally showing a "Don't".

It’s possible that the person who published the article chose the photo without any input from the author. I’ve heard of authors online having inappropriate (and sometimes unintentionally offensive) photos placed into their articles without their knowledge by editors and finding out about it after an outcry.

Yeah. I think what someone probably did was ask two kilt-wearers to illustrate what the most egregious kilt-wearing sin would be, so they turned their kilts around. As others have said, the article really should have mentioned that the first image shows a BIG "don't".
