    Wearing the Kilt Pin

I just wanted to ask people,

How do you put your kilt pin on? I know the proper way you put it on is through the first layer only. I do this most of the time, but I feel insecure like this so sometimes I put it through both layers.

Do you people put it through the first only or both?

Just one. I’ve never had an issue with the aprons flapping and that’s even with the lighter PV fabric of my kilt.

Remember to put the pin through a piece of rubber to keep it from being lost if it ever comes open.

The kilt pin does not actually hold the apron down in the wind. That's a myth. You have a second apron behind the first you should have no modesty problem.

Today it is bling. The equivalent of a lady wearing a brooch. That little glint of jewelry to the outfit.

Well why is it one year ago when I was watching a instructional video on how to wear a kilt, it says that "the pin, as well as being decorative, will keep the kilt from flapping and preserve your modesty."?

And I can tell you from personal experience that it does help to keep it down and keep it from flapping.

    How will this help exactly?

It said it because the guy who wrote the script didn't know what he was blathering on about.

How can the top apron possibly flash anyone when the bottom apron opens the other direction? Try opening it some time when you're wearing it, or better, have your wife try.

Yes. Especially have your wife try. When you're alone!

Aren't you a priest man? What is with the sexual joke?

Anyway, what I meant to say was 'flapping'. When a wind goes by, the metal pin stops it from blowing all over the place. I've seen it.

Piskie priests can marry lad. It’s a perk.

    ;)

My understanding is that it’s the weight of the pin that’s supposed to hold it down. However most pins wouldn’t really be heavy enough and it’s probably a retroactive justification for what’s really a piece of jewelry. There’s a tendency to attribute everything to some legend or other like dicing or bonnet colors.

It keeps the pin from sliding off and being lost if the catch comes undone.
