Slaters the discount men's clothing store in Scotland had matching flashes and silk tie in a lilac colour that go nicely with my Ancient Craig kilt and charcoal Crail jacket for a "do".

While silk can be delicate, it is also true that the vast majority of neckties I see for sale are made of silk. These are all intended to keep a knot and to wear relatively tightly around the neck--a place prone to sweat, movement, and spills. So we may be selling silk's durability rather short.

However, I usually wear my wool self-tie garters when I'm dressed up. The colors perfectly compliment my kilt and the texture, fringe, and "bounce" all add interest to my outfit. I haven't seen a silk garter tie for sale, but I don't doubt that they are available somewhere if you want them.
