    Bummer...St. Andrew's Day let down...

First I would like to wish everyone a Glorious St. Andrew's Day (early). I was all ready for work on Tuesday. Last night I got the kilt pressed, shirt, sweater and hose all lined up and talked to my new boss today and then the hammer dropped. The previous boss was supportive and even found it fun when I occassionally wore the kilt to celebrate different things. Well, things have changed!

Now I'm bummed out and probably have to start looking for a new job! What fun is work any more?

Well, at least I'll get kilted tomorrow evening, have good supper, even got the wife to try haggis a small bite this weekend so we will have it Tuesday night. I'll finish this off with a good single malt and cigar....boy am I looking forward to that!

So Happy St. Andrew's Day (early) to all.

    Richard-

If you work for a larger company, you might be able to push the issue. I didn't even know it but we have a Corporate Office of Diversity here that expressly seeks to champion diversity issues like this on behalf of the victims.

Sorry to hear about that Richard, but we do have our civil rights. Unless your boss can demonstrate that it is a disruptive or a safety issue, then you have every right to wear it. Middle Eastern people wear turbans and traditional dress to work. If you are friendly with your boss, I would try to get him on the side of kilt-wearers. No ultimatums or threats but just implications that you have much power on your side. (ie; the media, the ACLU etc) He may bend when you show that you can do your job better wearing the kilt. Good luck, - Alan

Happy St.Andrews day to you too Richard.

Would the new boss dare to put the hammer down on St. Patricks day?? Doubt it.

There's a great story in the Utilikilts newsletter this month about a guy in the same fix in 1988 who called upon his clan to confront such nonsense and won handsomely.

Richard a happy St. Andrews day to you.

I would definately check into your work about this, it sounds like the new boss is trying to show everyone who is boss and that he does things differently than the old one. Just be careful, being new he may not take to being questioned. Best of luck.

Sent an email to my coworkers wishing them a Happy St. Andrew's Day tomorrow and explaining to the confused that it is to Scots what St. Patrick's Day is to the Irish, Bastille Day to the French, Martin Luther King Day to African Americans, and Cinco de Mayo to Mexicans.

And so, into the breach, I plan to wear my tan UK original with a wool Stewart tartan shirt, cream kilt hose, and brown wingtips to work tomorrow.

We shall see what we shall see.
